Hey Hey

Still on hiatus. D'oh.

You know what I really want? I want a full set of the Hikaru no Go manga (the new edition). Also, I'm endlessly amused by the fact that there's one guy in the Chinese team (sorry, can't remember his name) who totally looks like a certain overly religious prosecutor from another manga drawn by Obata. Even his image color is the same. Someone has a fetish, I think, and that someone is not necessarily me.

...oh, whom am I kidding.

I've started watching Inukami!. It's not terribly unique, it seems to be a fairly generic harem anime with supernatural elements and tons of fanservice (for guys), but, um. You see, folks, I have this unwritten AU story in which Teru from Death Note is an inugami (in case you wonder, he was canonically born in 1982, the year of the Dog, much to my silly geeky delight) and Raito is his owner; in other words, I have a thing for this mythological concept. The best part is that in Inukami!, dog spirits are supposed to fight evil and proliferate righteousness, which... is basically what Teru does (in his own warped way, yes), so the similarity is definitely there! At least I totally see it! I'm... good at seeing random weird things! Heck, the main inugami girl even has green hair and red eyes. I don't even ship Raito x Teru anymore because Raito doesn't deserve the lovely prosecutor, but the idea is too amusing. And Inukami! is actually kinda funny sometimes, and the animation is very cute.

1. No Shounen Jump this week. Wah.

2. So... I guess I need to start thinking about my Blind Go fic, eh? I have some vague ideas (though I won't reveal them here! Ha!)... it'll probably be short and quite possibly Hikaru-centric because I love the kid. It's amazing just how much I love him, really - I'm a pretty fickle fan, my preferences are not that stable, but Hikaru is one of my eternal loves, along with Teru and Atobe, and I always enjoy just... thinking about him. Basically, I'm an obsessed otaku, yes. But they are so awesome!

One Outs

My friend and I are watching One Outs together - she's quite familiar with this series, both the manga and the anime, while I'm still completely new to it. It's a very... clever baseball-centric story with a ruthless, cynical and devilish protagonist, Toua Tokuchi. Appearance-wise, he resembles Yoichi Hiruma from Eyeshield 21, but I suspect that Hiruma is... less scary, actually, and less mysterious. Not that I know much about Eyeshield 21, but it seems so to me. Besides, One Outs is seinen, which is traditionally harsher than shounen. My current favorite character, however, is not Tokuchi (although I do like him a lot, he is simply too fascinating and I'm convinced that he is Satan in disguise) but Itsuki Takami, a prodigy from a rival team. Incidentally, he is voiced by Masaya Matsukaze, who is also known as Teru Mikami in Death Note. I didn't recognize him at first, shame on me. It must be fate, folks. Sadly, the fandom appears to be small and not especially active. But I won't lose hope.

I won't lie, I'm quite bothered by this discussion. I'm a total nobody in the Hikaru no Go fandom, I've never been particularly active in it and I probably won't become active anytime soon, but I'm very fond of it. I love the series deeply and I respect many people in this fandom; I've always liked it for its general maturity. And I don't want it to get wanky. Perhaps it's inevitable, but still, I'm just honestly upset, even though I'm not truly close to anyone involved in this conflict (I mean, I have actual friends in the Hikaru no Go fandom, but they aren't in the very center of this kerfuffle, so to say). No, I don't think that the concept of plagiarism is overrated. At the same time, I do believe that this term is to be used cautiously, especially in literature, where plots are constantly recycled. Even the idea of Death Note is not 100% new - there's a short 70s manga by the great Shigeru Mizuki that is also focused on a mysterious killing notebook, but most people in Japan, including Mizuki himself, don't seem to view that as a possible legal issue (at least I've never seen or heard any negative comments from Mizuki, and he's influential enough in the manga department, more so than Ohba). I understand that it's a completely different situation, but... anyway, I think that the atmosphere is too heated and painful for everyone. Naturally, I can't just show up with a PLAY NICE! flag and stop the wank; even so, it's sad to look at. And I guess I'm being subjective here because the accused person is a friend's friend, and I hate it when the ones I care for are hurt, whether it's fair or not. Um. Perhaps I simply need to read all posts related to this situation.

1. I'm still very much in love with Death Note - which is a sign of stability, I suppose. Well, I have a RL friend who loves it even more, in fact (thanks to me and my wise influence!), and I find it great because I get to chat about Mikami's divine awesomeness with her. He is not really the world's most popular character, so every fan is precious ♥ or something like that, haha. Our shipping preferences are a bit different, but that's hardly a problem since we aren't militant about this kind of stuff. I don't know about the fandom's latest trends though - I... don't interact with it, mostly due to my lack of interest in Raito x L and Mello x Matt slash.

2. I like Bakuman, Ohba & Obata's newest creation, very much.

3. I have this intense love-hate relationship with Code Geass, as a series and as a fandom. I'll probably never leave it for good, although there are so many things that... bug me about it, and the fact that I'm kinda similar to Lelouch in certain subtle ways bothers me sometimes, but it's so... fascinating, like a shipwreck, especially the 2nd season. Spoilers! ) And I sort of ship Lelouch with Suzaku (when I'm not busy fangirling Suzaku's painfully short-lived romance with Euphemia) - normally I don't like to pair up enemies, but this ship just... works for me, unlike most of Lelouch's relationships with girls. I don't think that he knows what to do with girls, to be honest. He can be fantastically clueless, that guy.

4. I'm planning to catch up with Katekyo Hitman Reborn! sometime soon. So far, I like Gokudera and Chrome a lot. There's something... utterly adorable about their devotion to Tsuna and Mukuro respectively. Plus, Gokudera has white hair. I find that quite hot.

5. New Prince of Tennis deserves its own post.
