Good Stuff

1. I'm reading Mushishi! It's really awesome. I've seen several episodes of the anime before, but I probably won't continue it anytime soon; the manga, however, is quite fun to read. Its atmosphere is slightly similar to that of Natsume Yuujinchou, which I'm also familiar with, only Mushishi is more surreal and somewhat less character-driven, I think? Er, I don't know how to explain it, but in Natsume Yuujinchou, Takashi Natsume's personality plays a very large, defining role (and so do his relationships with humans and ghosts), while Mushishi is more focused on the exploration of mushi as a fantasy concept. Or so it seems to me. Not that Ginko is not an interesting dude, no, but I usually catch myself caring more about Yuki Urushibara's bizarre mythology than about Ginko's biography while reading. Anyway, Urushibara is an excellent writer. I adore one of her short stories, The Labyrinth Cat (which is available here; this manga always makes me cry for some reason, but it's strangely beautiful and poetic), and I might become a big fan of Mushishi's dream-like world. It just suits my tastes very well.

2. Our local library is wonderful, but damn, it has only 2 or 3 books by Margaret Atwood, and I've read them all already. I guess I'll have to read an e-version of The Handmaid's Tale. So far, it seems like a pretty great dystopia, with religious issues and all. But, argh, I hate reading stuff from screen. I almost always print fanfics out when they're longer than 3000-5000 words, but I can't go to the office and abuse our printer right now (and I don't really want to, it's not like I miss work or anything; I'm so... anti-workaholic, it's not even funny).

3. Katekyo Hitman Reborn! #252: hmm, now this is nice. Will this inspire a wave of Byakuran x Shouichi fanfics (with tons of angst, of course)? Because it totally makes Byakuran sound like Shouichi's destined - okay, okay, shutting up now. It's a fun idea and I like it! I'm generally rather fond of stories about parallel futures and such things.
